You will be surprised to know that, in an ancient time Indian mathematician Aryabhatta (476-550 CE) was the first of the major mathematician-astronomers from the classical age of Indian mathematics and Indian astronomy invented “ZERO”. The mathematical part of Aryabhatta covers arithmetic, algebra, plane trigonometry, and spherical trigonometry. It also contains a continued fraction, quadratic equation, sums-of-power series. French mathematician Georges Ifrah argues that the knowledge of zero was inherent Aryabhatiya place value system as a placeholder for the powers of ten with null coefficients.
