DIVIDING INTO TWO PARTS
If a number n is divided into two parts in the ratio x : y then it would be –
First Term x
The first part = ---------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y
Second Term y
The second part = -------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y
Example-1) Divide 110 in the ratio 5 : 6.
Ans.)
First Term x
The first part = ---------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y

= ----------- X 110
11
= 5 X 10 = 50
Second Term y
The second part = ---------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y
6
= ----------- X 110

= 6 X 10 = 60
So, as per the ratio two numbers are 50 & 60 (Ans.)
Example-2) Divide 240 no.s mango in between two friends Stephen and Richard in the ratio of 15 : 9, so find out who will get how much mango ?
Ans.)
First Term x
The first part = ---------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y
15
= ----------- X 240
24
= 15 X 10 = 150
Second Term y
The second part = ---------------- X number = ----------- X n
Sum Of Terms x + y
9
= ----------- X 240
24 = 9 X 10 = 90
Stephen gets 150 no.s Mango and Richard gets 90 no.s Mango (Ans.)
