INTRODUCTION OF DECIMAL

DECIMAL

In the Decimal process there are two-part 1) Integral Part and 2) Fractional Part and the both part is separated by decimal point which is denoted by ‘.’. Integral part of the decimal is placed just left side of the decimal point and the fractional part is placed right side of the decimal point. In right side of the decimal point there are a unit which is to be placed as per the place value of unit such as ones (1st place), tens (2nd Place), hundreds (3rd place),……so on and after the right side of the decimal point unit is placed as per the place value such as tenths (1st decimal place), hundredths (2nd decimal place), thousandths (3rd decimal place)

Decimal number is to be shown or organized like below –

Thousands  Hundreds  Tens  Ones (Decimal Point‘.’)  Tenths Hundredths Thousandths

   1000       100       10     1        .               1/10    1/100      1/1000

As an example if 8235.354 is a number then 8235 is an integral part of the decimal number and 354 is the fractional part of a decimal number. If we try to split as per their place value then it can be written as –

8 X 1000 + 2 X 100 + 3 X 10 + 5 X 1 + 3 X 1/10 + 5 X 1/100 + 4 X 1/1000

It would be read as 8 thousands 2 hundred thirty-five point three five four
