CLASS-7
DIVISION OF DECIMAL

Division of Decimals

Now we will learn how to do division between two decimal numbers. The process is very easy, so follow the steps –

First, we will convert the divisor into a natural number by removing the decimal point, and in the dividend, shift the decimal point to the right by as many places as the number of the decimal places in the divisor is given.

Next, we will place the decimal point in the quotient when you take down the digit from the tenths places in the dividend during the process of division.

In the next step, if the division remains incomplete when you have taken down all the digits in the dividend, add zeros to the right of the decimal part of the dividend.

Example-

1) Divide 31.25 by 2.5

2.5 )  31.25 (

Step.1 – In this step, we can see that divisor and dividend is unlike decimal number, so we have to convert them in natural number via multiplication of 100 to both dividend & divisor and we get 2.5 X 100 = 250 and 31.25 X 100 = 3125 or in another way, we can shift decimal point as per based on the highest decimal position between two given decimal number and here highest decimal places is two so we have to move two right position ahead of divisor and dividend to find the natural number.

2) Divide 244.8 by 1.6

       1.6 )  244.8  (

Step.1 – In this step, we can see that divisor and dividend is unlike decimal number, so we have to convert them in natural number via multiplication of 100 to both dividend & divisor and we get 2.5 X 100 = 250 and 31.25 X 100 = 3125  or in another way, we can shift decimal point as per based on the highest decimal position between two given decimal number the highest decimal places is one so we have to move two right position ahead of divisor and dividend to find the natural number.
