REDUCTION OF FRACTION BY PRIME FACTORIZATION METHOD

REDUCTION OF FRACTION IN SIMPLEST FORM BY PRIME FACTORIZATION METHOD

Q.1) Find out the simplest form of 125/180 by factorization method

Ans.) Now we find out the prime factor of the given fraction.

Step.1)  Find the product of primes each of the ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of the given fraction.

     125 = 5 x 5 x 5 x 1,

and 180 = 5 x 3 x 3 x 4 x 1

Step.2)  Cancel the factors that are common to both of it’s ‘Numerator’ and ‘Denominator’. Now simplify to get lowest form.

( Cancelling common factors in Numerator and Denominator of the given fraction.)

So, 25/36 is the simplest form of given fraction.

Q.2) Find out the simplest form of 120/250 by factorization method

Ans.) Now we find out the prime factor of the given fraction.

Step.1)  Find the product of primes each of the ‘Numerator’ & ‘Denominator’ of the given fraction.

120 = 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1, and

250 = 5 x 5 x 5 x 2 x 1

Step.2) Cancel the factors that are common to both of it’s ‘Numerator’ and ‘Denominator’. Now simplify to get the lowest form. ( Cancelling common factors in Numerator and Denominator of the given fraction.)

So, 12/25 is the simplest form of a given fraction.
