CLASS-6
FRACTION TO DECIMAL BY DIVISION METHOD

CONVERSION OF FRACTION INTO DECIMAL BY DIVISION METHOD

In this method we can observe that, Denominator is always smaller than Numerator and always even number of the given Fraction.

                             15

Example.1)  Convert   --------  into Decimal fraction.

                              4

In this method Denominator < Numerator

And we have to  Denominator )  Numerator (

Step.1) Divide Numerator by the Denominator

Step.2) Complete the division, let a non-zero remainder be left.

Step.3) Put a decimal point in the quotient

Step.4) Put a zero on the right of the remainder and divide again just like the whole number.

Step.5) Repeat step 4 again and again till the reminder becomes ‘0’ Zero.

So, the decimal number of the given fraction is 3.75   (Ans.)

                             35

Example.2)  Convert   ---------   into Decimal fraction.

                              8

Ans.) In this method Denominator < Numerator

And we have to  Denominator )  Numerator (

Step.1) Divide Numerator by the Denominator

Step.2) Complete the division, let a non-zero remainder be left.

Step.3) Put a decimal point in the quotient

Step.4) Put a zero on the right of the remainder and divide again just like the whole number.

Step.5) Repeat step 4 again and again tillthe reminder becomes ‘0’ Zero.

So, the decimal number of the given fraction is  4.375  (Ans.)
