CLASS-6
DIVISION OF DECIMAL BY DECIMAL NUMBER

DIVISION OF DECIMAL BY DECIMAL NUMBER

Example.1) Divide  45.5 by 2.5

Ans.) We have to divide 45.5 by 2.5, so 45.5 ÷ 2.5 = ?

Step.1) Convert the Divisor into whole number by multiplying the Dividend and Divisor at a time by a suitable power of 10 depend on the no. of decimal place. If there are decimal place in both ‘Dividend’ & ‘Divisor’ then we will Consider maximum number of decimal places comparing between ‘Dividend’ & ‘Divisor’.

Step.2) Now divide the new Dividend 455 by the whole number 25 as Divisor. Now remember the table of 25 and put 1 in the quotient and put under the Dividend and put 20 as a reminder, now we take 5 from Dividend and place after reminder 20 and consider 205 as the new Dividend and again we will recall the table of 25 and we get 5 as reminder and place 8 at Quotient after 1. Now we will try to divide 5 by divisor 25, but it is not possible because Dividend is one-digit number and Divisor is two-digit number. So now we will place a decimal point at Quotient after 18 and at the same time place 0 (Zero) after reminder 5 and consider 50 as dividend and again we will recall the table of 25 and the Process will continue until the reminder is 0 (Zero).
