ROUNDING OFF DECIMAL TO NEAREST TENTHS

Rounding Off Decimal To Nearest Tenths -

For rounding off the decimal fraction to the nearest tenths, we see the digit in the hundredths place. If it is less than 5 (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4), the digit in the tenths place remains the same, and the digit in the hundredths place is replaced by 0. If the digit in the hundredths place is 5 or more than 5 (i.e. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9), we add 1 to the digit in the tenths place and replace the digit in the hundredths place by zero.

Round off each of the following to the nearest tenths :-

a) 48.43

48.43 has 3 in the hundredths place and 3 < 5, so in the answer 4 in the tenths place remains the same and 3 in the hundredths place is replaced by 0.

.: Answer is 48.40 = 48.4      (Ans.)

b) 98.69

98.69 has 9 in the hundredths place and 9 > 5, so in the answer 6 in the tenths place becomes 6 + 1 = 7 and 9 in the hundredths place is replaced by 0.

.: Answer is 98.70 = 98.7      (Ans.)
