ROUNDING OFF DECIMAL TO THE NEAREST HUNDREDTHS

Rounding Off To The Nearest Hundredths -

For rounding off the decimal fraction to the nearest hundredths, we see the digit in the thousandths place. If it is less than 5 (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4), the digit in the hundredths place remains the same, and the digit in the thousandths place is replaced by 0. If the digit in the thousandths place is 5 or more than 5 (i.e. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9), we add 1 to the digit in the hundredths place and replace the digit in the thousandths place by zero.

Round off each of the following to the nearest hundredths :-

a) 180.762

180.762 has 2 in the thousandths place and 2 < 5, so in the answer 6 in the hundredths place remains the same and 2 in the thousandths place is replaced by 0.

.: Answer is 180.760 = 180.76       (Ans.)

b) 388.008

388.008 has 8 in the thousandths place and 8 > 5, so in the answer 0 in the hundredths place becomes 0 + 1 = 1 and 8 in the thousandths place is replaced by 0.

.: Answer is 388.010 = 388.01      (Ans.)
