DECIMAL - PLACE VALUE

__PLACE VALUE OF DECIMAL NUMBER -__

**The place value of a decimal number is determined by the position of each digit to the right of the decimal point. The place value starts with the digit immediately to the right of the decimal point, which represents the tenths place. Moving to the left, each subsequent digit represents a value that is ten times smaller than the previous digit. Here is an example to illustrate:**

**Consider the decimal number 25.376.**

**The digit "2" is in the tens place.
The digit "5" is in the ones place.
The digit "3" is in the tenths place.
The digit "7" is in the hundredths place.
The digit "6" is in the thousandths place.**

**So, the place value of each digit in the decimal number 25.376 is as follows:**

**2 - Tens place, **

**5 - Ones place, **

**3 - Tenths place, **

**7 - Hundredths place, **

**6 - Thousandths place.**

**Example.1-**

fraction 6357.049 :

**a) 6357 is the integral part (whole number).

**b) 049 is the decimal part.
**

**c) The number of digits after the decimal point in it is three.
So we can say that the decimal
fraction has three decimal places.**

**The decimal fraction 6357.049 consists of 6 thousands, 3 hundred, 5 tens, 7 ones, 0 tenths, 4 hundredths, and 9 thousandths.**

**Example.2-**

**For the decimal fraction 4128.274 :**

**a) 4128 is the integral part (whole number).**

**b) 274 is the decimal part.**

**c) The number of digits after the decimal point in it is three. So we can say that the decimal fraction has three decimal places.**

**The place value chart for the decimal fraction 4128.274 is as follows:-**

**The decimal fraction 4128.274 consists of 4 thousands, 1 hundred, 2 tens, 8 ones, 2 tenths, 7 hundredths, and 4 thousandths.**

**Example.3-**

**For the decimal fraction 3129.275 :**

**a) 3129 is the integral part (whole number).**

**b) 275 is the decimal part.**

**c) The number of digits after the decimal point in it is three. So we can say that the decimal fraction has three decimal places.**
