# CLASS-4MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTION

MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTIONS -

To multiply a fraction by a whole number, we multiply the numerator of the fraction by the whole number and the denominator of the fraction by 1. The first product thus obtained becomes the numerator and the second product becomes the denominator of the required product.

Example.1) Multiply ------- by 2

13

5

Ans.)   -------- X  2

13

5          2

=> ------ X ------  [Multiply the numerator by 2 and denominator by 1]

13          1

5 X 2

=> ----------       [The proper fraction is the answer here.]

13 X 1

10

=>  ---------      (Ans.)

Example.2) Find the product of ------ and 9.

15

Ans.)

11

------- X  9

15

11          9

=>  ------- X ------

15          1

[STEP 1: Multiply the numerator of 11/15 by 12 and denominator by 1]

11 X 9

=>  ----------

15 X 1

99

=>  ------
