INTRODUCTION OF DECIMAL NUMBERS

INTRODUCTION TO DECIMALS -

In decimal numbers, there are two parts. (1) Integral number part, and (2) Decimal number part. Both of the said number part is separated by Dot (.

 Integral Number Part - The part written before decimal point

 Decimal Number Part - The part written after the decimal point

So, as per the above description decimal number should be looked like mention below -

                Integral part Decimal part

A fraction with denominator 10, 100, or 1000 are called decimal numerals, or decimals or decimal fractions.


The fraction -

1) -------  (๏ปฟOne-Tenth๏ปฟ) can be written as 0.1,

2) -------  (Fifth-Tenth) can be written as 0.5,

3) ------  (Seven-Tenth) can be written as 0.8.

A fraction with denominator 10, 100, or 1000 are called decimal numerals, or decimals or decimal fractions.

The numerals 0.1, 0.5, and 0.7 are called decimal numerals or simply decimals. The dot in 0.1, 0.5, and 0.7 is called a decimal point.

The number 0.7 can be read as : i) seven-tenth

                                     ii) zero point seven

1) The convention to write a decimal numeral for a fraction like ----- is 

                                                                        10

0.7 and not .7  (A zero is put before the .7)

2) The convention to write a decimal numeral for a fraction like ------ is 

                                                                        10

0.9 and not .9  (A zero is put before the .9)

3) The convention to write a decimal numeral for a fraction like ------ is

0.3 and not .3  (A zero is put before the .3)


Decimals can also be renamed using a decimal point.-

1 = 1.0   

2 = 2.0  

15 = 15.0                 

148 = 148.0

There are three form of decimals, (i) Tenths,

                                      (ii) Hundredths,

                                      (iii) Thousandths,
