H.C.F - DIVISION METHOD

FINDING H.C.F VIA DIVISION METHOD :-

A) For Two Numbers – EXPLANATION -

In this method,

§ STEP 1.) First we divide the greater number (dividend) by the smaller number (divisor).

§ STEP 2.) The remainder then becomes the divisor and the first divisor becomes the dividend.

§ STEP 3.) The process is repeated till the remainder is zero.

§ STEP 4.) The last divisor is the H.C.F.

SOLVED EXAMPLE:

Q. Find the HCF using DIVISION METHOD. (TWO NUMBERS) -

1) Find H.C.F of 48 and 128 via Division Method

Ans.)

HCF

Answer : The H.C.F of 48 and 128 is 16.  (Ans.)

B) For Three Numbers – EXPLANATION -

In this method,

§ STEP 1.) First we divide the largest number (dividend) by the second largest number (divisor).

§ STEP 2.) The remainder then becomes the divisor and the first divisor becomes the dividend.

§ STEP 3.) The process is repeated till the remainder is zero.

§ STEP 4.) The last divisor is the H.C.F.

§ STEP 5.) The third number is divided by this H.C.F.

§ STEP 6.) The same process is repeated till the remainder is zero.

§ STEP 7.) The last divisor is the H.C.F of the three numbers.
