SIMPLIFICATION ( ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION ONLY) -
As we have learnt for simplification of whole numbers, we arrange the addition first and then subtraction. It is the same for decimal fractions too.
Principal of Simplification -
a) Convert to like decimals and then calculate.
b) Arrange addition and subtraction.
c) For multiple subtractions, we add
1) Simplify the equation 5.88 – 4.85 – 14.4 + 28
5.88 – 4.85 – 14.4 + 28
= 5.88 + 28.00 – 4.85 – 14.4 Step.1) Convert like fraction and add
= 33.88 – (4.85 + 14.4) Step.2) For multiple subtraction add
= 33.88 – 19.25 Step.3) Arrange addition or subtraction
= 14.63 (Ans.)
2) Simplify the equation 85 – 8.25 – 12.48 – 15.66
85 – 8.25 – 12.48 – 15.66
= 85.00 – 8.25 - 12.48 - 15.66 Step.1) Convert like fraction and add
= 85.00 – (8.25 + 12.48 + 15.66) Step.2) For multiple subtraction add
= 85.00 – 36.39 Step.3) Arrange addition & subtraction
= 48.61 (Ans.)
