MULTIPLICATION OF DECIMAL BY 10, 100, 1000

MULTIPLICATION OF DECIMALS BY 10, 100, and 1000 -

There are so many communication has been done in terms of multiplication earlier, but now we learn the same multiplication but in respect of 10, 100, and 1000 as a multiplier. There are some basic rules are given below for for multiplication by 10, 100, & 1000.

Rules of multiplication Decimal by 10, 100, & 1000 -

1) Convert the decimal to fraction.

2) Cancel the zero at the end in numerator and denominator.

3) When we multiply a decimal fraction by 10 or 100 or 1000 we move the decimal point from one place to the right based on the number of zero (0). Suppose if we multiply decimal fraction by 10, then decimal point will move from one place to one step right, and if we multiply decimal fraction by 100, then decimal point will move from one place to two steps right, and if we multiply decimal fraction by 1000, then decimal point will move from one place to three steps right.

There are some examples are given below for your better understanding -

Example.1) 123.54 X 100

Ans.) 123.54 X 100 = 12354.00   (Decimal point moves 2 step right

= 12354      (After decimal point zero has no value)

so, the desired answer is 12354.      (Ans.)

Example.2) 25.234 X 100

Ans.) 25.234 X 100 = 2523.4   (Decimal point moves 2 step right

= 2523.4  (After decimal point zero has no value)

so, the desired answer is 2523.4.      (Ans.)

Example.3)  324.37 X 1000

Ans.) 324.370 X 1000 = 324370.00  (Decimal point moves 3 step right

= 324370    (After decimal point zero has no value)

so, the desired answer is 324370.      (Ans.)

Example.4)  5.357 X 10

Ans.) 5.357 X 10 = 53.57  (Decimal point moves 1 step right

= 53.57  (After decimal point zero has no value)

so, the desired answer is 53.57.      (Ans.)

Example.5)  56.782 X 100

Ans.) 56.782 X 100 = 5678.2  (Decimal point moves 2 step right

= 5678.2  (After decimal point zero has no value)

so, the desired answer is 5678.2.      (Ans.)

Some other way of multiplication of decimal number with 10, 100, and 1000 given below -

1) Multiplication of Decimal by 10, 100, and 1000 by other way,

2) Multiplication of Decimal number by 10, 100, 1000 by Short Method,
