DRAW A LINE SEGMENT OF GIVEN LENGTH USING A RULER

__TO DRAW A LINE SEGMENT
OF GIVEN LENGTH USING A RULER -__

**▪ RULER is used for drawing lines and measuring
the length of the line segments.**

**▪ The ruler is marked in centimeters and inches.**

**▪ Each centimeter is divided into 10 equal parts. Each part is 1 mm.**

__To draw a line segment of a given length using a ruler, follow these steps :-__

**Draw a straight line with a ruler that is longer than the given length.****Determine the length of the line segment you want to draw, and mark both endpoints of the line segment on the longer line using a pencil.****Place the edge of the ruler at one endpoint of the line segment, and line up the 0 point of the ruler with that endpoint.****Holding the ruler steady, slide it along the longer line until the other endpoint of the line segment lines up with the correct measurement on the ruler.****Draw a line connecting the two endpoints of the line segment using a pencil, and make sure to extend it beyond the endpoints.**

**By following these steps, you can draw a line segment of any given length using a ruler.**

**Example.1) To draw a line segment
of length of 6 cm.**

**STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -**

**a.** **
Place the ruler on the paper.**

**b.
Mark a point against the zero mark.**

**c.
Mark another point against the 6 cm mark.**

**d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.**

**e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 6 cm is drawn. **

**Example.2) To draw a line segment of length of 10 cm.**

**STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -**

**a. Place the ruler on the paper.**

**b. Mark a point against the zero mark.**

**c. Mark another point against the 10 cm mark.**

**d. Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till the pencil reaches the second point.**

**e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 10 cm is drawn. **

**Example.3) To draw a line segment of length of 4.5 cm.**

**STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -**

**a. Place the ruler on the paper.**

**b. Mark a point against the zero mark.**

**c.
Place your pencil at the 4 cm mark and then count 5 divisions. Mark another point against the 4.5 cm mark.**

**d.
Keep your pencil at the first point and move it along the edge of the ruler keeping the ruler pressed evenly till
the pencil reaches the second
point.**

**e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 4.5 cm is drawn.**

**Example.4) To draw a line segment of length of 6.3 cm.**

**STEPS OF CONSTRUCTION -**

**a. Place the ruler on the paper.**

**b. Mark a point against the zero mark.**

**c. Place your pencil at the 6 cm mark and then count 3 divisions. Mark another point against the 6.3 cm mark.**

**e. Remove the ruler and the pencil. Label the points. Thus, the line segment of length 6.3 cm is drawn.**
