MULTIPLICATION OF THREE DIGIT NUMBER WITH REGROUPING 

MULTIPLICATION OF 3 DIGIT NUMBER BY 1 DIGIT NUMBER BY RE-GROUPING & CARRYING OVER

 

Q1. MULTIPLY 258 BY 3.

METHOD-

Step 1. -  Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 3

        8 Ones x 3 = 24 Ones = 2 Tens 4 Ones.

            Write 4 in the ‘Ones’ column.

       Now carry 2 Tens to the Tens column.


Step 2.-  Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 3 

                                      5 x 3 = 15 Tens.

         Now 2 Tens (Earlier Forwarded) + 15 Tens = 17 Tens.

                                  17 Tens = 1 Hundred 7 Tens

                                 Write 7 in the ‘Tens’ column.

                        Now carry 1 Hundred to the ‘Hundreds’ column.


Step 3.- Now multiply the ‘Hundreds’ by 3

                 2 x 3 = 6 Hundreds

     Now 1 Hundred (Earlier Forwarded) + 6 Hundreds = 7 Hundreds

                 Write 7 in ‘Hundreds’ column.

        Product = 774 (Seven Hundred Seventy Four)      (Ans.)



Q2. MULTIPLY 479 BY 2.

METHOD-

Step 1. -  Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 2

    9 Ones x 2 = 18 Ones = 1 Tens 8 Ones.

Write 8 in the ‘Ones’ column.

Now carry 1 Ten to the Tens column.


Step 2.- Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 2          

        7 x 2 = 14 Tens.

          Now 1 Tens (Earlier Forwarded) + 14 Tens = 15 Tens.

                                 15 Tens = 1 Hundred 5 Tens

                                 Write 5 in the ‘Tens’ column.

                         Now carry 1 Hundred to the ‘Hundreds’ column.


Step 3.- Now multiply the ‘Hundreds’ by 2

            4 x 2 = 8 Hundreds

     Now 1 Hundred (Earlier Forwarded) + 8 Hundreds = 9 Hundreds

            Write 9 in ‘Hundreds’ column.

         Product = 958 (Nine Hundred Fifty Eight)        (Ans.)
