CLASS-2
CONCEPT OF MULTIPLICATION

MULTIPLICATION

Multiplication is a nothing but repeated addition. If you wish to add same number again and again then the process may take lots of time, but in the way of multiplication you can do the same thing or you can get the same result via application of ‘Time Table’ with investing less time.

So, it’s clearly shown before learning multiplication you would learn ‘Time Table’.

Now, we will try to understand the logic or the way of process of Multiplication.

In above picture we can notice that, there are 2 balls in each group and there are 5 groups of balls

Or  We can write 2 (Two) balls 5 (Five) times has been taken, so we can write = 2 x 5 = 10        (Ans.)

In above picture we can notice that, there are 4 diamonds in each group and there are 6 groups of diamond

Or  We can write 4 (four) Diamonds 6 (six) times has been taken, so we can write = 4 x 6 = 24     (Ans.)

In above picture we can notice that, there are 6 triangles in each group and there are 7 groups of triangles

Or  We can write 6 (Six) Triangles 7 (Seven) times has been taken, so we can write = 6 x 7 = 42    (Ans.)

MULTIPLICATION & SUPPORTIVE TIME/NUMBER TABLE

Always remember that, to solve the multiplication problem we have to depend on number table

For Example –

If we wish to multiply 3 x 5 = 15, but this multiplication we can satisfy by table of 3 or 5

Table of 3                            Table of 5

3 x 1 = 3                              5 x 1 = 5

3 x 2 = 6                              5 x 2 = 10

3 x 3 = 9                              5 x 3 = 15

3 x 4 = 12                             5 x 4 = 20

3 x 5 = 15                                            5 x 5 = 25

3 x 6 = 18                             5 x 6 = 30

3 x 7 = 21                            5 x 7 = 35

3 x 8 = 24                            5 x 8 = 40

3 x 9 = 27                            5 x 9 = 45

3 x 10 = 30                            5 x 10 = 50

So, it is clearly shown that to get result the multiplication of 3 x 5, we can satisfy by both way, one is the table of 3 and another is table of 5. So in every multiplication we can get the result or product through two way.

Example-2.

Get the product of 8 and 7

Ans.  8 x 7 = 56

Above multiplication is satisfying by table of 8 and table of 7 both way.

Example-3.

Get the product of 4 and 6

Ans.  4 x 6 = 24

Above multiplication is satisfying by table of 4 and table of 6 both way.
