RELATION (Intuitive Or Non-Mathematical Concept) –
Please study below sentences –
(i) Moscow is the capital of Russia.
(ii) Richard is 2ft longer then his brother Stephen.
(iii) 78 is greater than 56.
(iv) The line AB is parallel to the line CD.
(v) {a, b} is subset of {a, b, c}.
All these sentences express relationship between two objects. In mathematics, symbol replace phrases “is longer than”, “is parallel to”, “is subset of” are respectively replaced by the symbols, ‘>’, ‘II’, ‘⊂’
Intuitively we can say that, the ‘relation’ implies an association of two objects (people, numbers, ideas, etc.) according to some property possessed by them.
