CLASS-1
MULTIPLICATION OF DOUBLE DIGIT NUMBER

MULTIPLICATION

Multiplication is nothing but repeated addition as we have discussed earlier, and doing multiplication we are actually simplifying our calculation very easier with saving time. Multiplication is needed for every level of class and most of the subject like Physics, Chemistry, Math, Life science, Bio science etc. with higher studies including research work.

WRITE THE PRODUCT –

1)   5 FOURS = 5 X 4 = 20,

2)   3 EIGHTS = 3 X 8 = 24,

3)   4 THREES = 4 X 3 = 12,

4)   3 SIXS = 3 X 6 = 18,

5)   8 TWOS = 8 X 2 = 16,

6)   9 ONE = 9 X 1 = 9.

SPECIAL INFORMATION ON MULTIPLICATION OR THE FACT OF MULTIPLICATION

ALWAYS REMEMBER “THE UNIVERSAL TRUTH” THAT IS =

IF ANY NUMBER MULTIPLIED BY ‘0’ (ZERO) IS ‘0’ (ZERO),FOR EXAMPLE –

  6 X 0 = 0,      14 X 0 = 0.

  9 X 0 = 0,       8 X 0 = 0.

AND IF ANY NUMBER MULTIPLIED BY ‘1’ (ONE) IS THE NUMBER ITSELF, FOR EXAMPLE –

2 X 1 = 2,         3 X 1 = 3.

10 X 1 = 10,     12 X 1 = 12.

MULTIPLICATION OF DOUBLE DIGIT NUMBER WITHOUT CARRY OVER

Q1. MULTIPLY 21 BY 2

METHOD-

Step 1.-  Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 2

           1 Ones x 2 = 2 Ones

Write 2 Ones in the ‘Ones’ column.

Step 2.Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 2

           2 Tens x 2 = 4 Tens.

Write 4 Tens in the ‘Tens’ column.

Product = 42 (Forty Two) Ans.

Q2. MULTIPLY 32 BY 3

METHOD-

Step 1. - Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 3

           2 Ones x 3 = 6 Ones

Write 6 in the ‘Ones’ column.

Step 2.- Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 3

                                         3 Tens x 3 = 9 Tens.

Write 9 Tens in the ‘Tens’ column.

Product = 96 (Ninety Six) Ans.

Q3. MULTIPLY 20 BY 4

METHOD-

Step 1.- Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 4

           0 Ones x 4 = 0 Ones

Write 0 in the ‘Ones’ column.

Step 2-Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 4

                                           2 Tens x 4 = 8.

Write 8 Tens in the ‘Tens’ column.

                                    Product = 80 (Eighty)    (Ans.)
