CLASS-1
Multiplication of Double Digit Number with Carry Forward

MULTIPLICATION -

Multiplication is nothing but repeated addition as we have discussed earlier, and doing multiplication we are actually simplifying our calculation very easier with saving time. Multiplication is needed for every level of class and most of the subject like Physics, Chemistry, Math, Life science, Bio science etc. with higher studies including research work.

WRITE THE PRODUCT –

1)   5 FOURS = 5 X 4 = 20,

2)   3 EIGHTS = 3 X 8 = 24,

3)   4 THREES = 4 X 3 = 12,

4)   3 SIXS = 3 X 6 = 18,

5)   8 TWOS = 8 X 2 = 16,

6)   9 ONE = 9 X 1 = 9.

SPECIAL INFORMATION ON MULTIPLICATION OR THE FACT OF MULTIPLICATION

ALWAYS REMEMBER “THE UNIVERSAL TRUTH” THAT IS =

IF ANY NUMBER MULTIPLIED BY ‘0’ (ZERO) IS ‘0’ (ZERO),FOR EXAMPLE –

  6 X 0 = 0,      14 X 0 = 0.

  9 X 0 = 0,       8 X 0 = 0.

AND IF ANY NUMBER MULTIPLIED BY ‘1’ (ONE) IS THE NUMBER ITSELF, FOR EXAMPLE –

 2 X 1 = 2,        3 X 1 = 3.

10 X 1 = 10,     12 X 1 = 12.

MULTIPLICATION OF DOUBLE DIGIT NUMBER WITH CARRY OVER-

Q1. MULTIPLY 16 BY 4

METHOD-

Step 1.Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 4

6 Ones x 4 = 24 Ones = 2 Tens 4 Ones.

Write 4 in the ‘Ones’ column.

Now carry 2 Tens to the Tens column.

Step 2.- Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 4

            1 x 4 = 4 Tens.

          Now 2 Tens (Earlier Forwarded) + 4 Tens = 6 Tens

Write 6 in the ‘Tens’ column.

Product = 64 (Sixty Four) Ans.

Q2. MULTIPLY 28 BY 3.

METHOD-

Step 1.- Multiply the ‘Ones’ by 3

8 Ones x 3 = 24 Ones = 2 Tens 4 Ones.

Write 4 in the ‘Ones’ column.

Now carry 2 Tens to the Tens column.

Step 2.- Now multiply the ‘Tens’ by 3

           2 x 3 = 6 Tens.

           Now 2 Tens (Earlier Forwarded) + 6 Tens = 8 Tens

Write 8 in the ‘Tens’ column.

Product = 84 (Eighty Four)     (Ans.)
